The Ledger
Every decision on the record. What a Ledger row holds, outcomes, the append-only audit trail, and the CSV export with its columns.
The Ledger, in Records, is one row per decision: what a dog proposed, the options, what was chosen and by whom, why, and how it turned out. It's how you see what your team did while you weren't looking, and how you check that the rules you set are the right ones.
A row
- When, and which dog.
- The decision: its title, its kind (send, update, book, spend, publish or other) and where it came from.
- Chosen: the option, or your own words if you typed an answer.
- By: a person (by name), or the rule that decided it, in the rule's own words ("Just do: Refunds up to $50", "Never: Promise a feature date").
- Reasoning and evidence: why the dog proposed it, and what it looked at.
- Outcome: good, bad, unknown, or still being checked, with a note.
Filters narrow it to one dog, to decisions by people or by rules, to undone ones, or to what's still waiting; search covers titles, reasoning and typed answers.
Outcomes
A decision isn't finished when it's made. Mark an outcome good, bad or unknown with a note ("She replied the same day and booked a call", "No replies after five days"). Over time, the Ledger shows which kinds of decision go well, which is what tells you a rule could move from Ask first to Just do.
The audit trail
Behind each row is its history, oldest first: seeded, proposed, decided by a rule, refused, decided by a person, undone, outcome, expired. Each event says who did it: a person (by their member id within the workspace, never their Alaskan ID), a rule, a dog or the system. The trail is append-only; the database refuses to change or delete it.
Export
The whole Ledger downloads as CSV, newest first, with these columns:
id, created_at, dog, kind, title, summary, source, status, chosen, chosen_label, typed,
decided_by_kind, decided_by, decided_at, reasoning, evidence, outcome, outcome_note,
outcome_checked_at, sample
A cell that starts with =, +, - or @ gets a leading ', so a spreadsheet won't run it as a formula. Sample rows from a team template are marked in the sample column.
