Every decision on the record: the Decision Ledger

Why every decision an Alaskan team makes, or asks you to make, goes into a ledger with who decided, why, and how it turned out, and what that lets you do.

When you hand work to people, you can ask them later why they did something. When you hand it to AI agents, you usually can't. The work happens somewhere you don't see, and what's left is the result.

Alaskan for Business keeps the rest. Every decision a dog makes, or asks you to make, goes into the Ledger.

One row per decision

A row says:

  • when, and which dog,
  • what it proposed, and the options it gave,
  • what was chosen: an option, or your own words if you typed an answer,
  • who chose: you, by name, or the rule that decided it, in the rule's own words ("Just do: Refunds up to $50"),
  • why: the dog's reasoning, and the evidence it looked at,
  • how it turned out: good, bad, unknown, or still being checked, with a note.

That last column is the one we care about most. A decision isn't finished when it's made. "She replied the same day and booked a call" is a good outcome. "No replies after five days" is a bad one. Over a few weeks the Ledger shows which kinds of decisions go well, and that's what tells you a rule can move from Ask first to Just do.

Rules, on the record too

Not every row is a decision you made. Each dog has rules: Just do (happens at once, with a 10-second undo), Ask first (comes to Decide) and Never (refused). When a rule decides, the Ledger names it. When a Never rule refuses something, that's recorded too.

So when you're asked "who said the team could do that?", the answer is a line in the Ledger: a person, or a sentence you wrote.

An audit trail that can't be rewritten

Behind each row is its history: proposed, decided, undone, outcome, expired. Each event says who did it, a person, a rule, a dog or the system. The trail is append-only: the database itself refuses to change or delete it. People are named by their member id within the workspace, never by their Alaskan ID.

Yours to take

The Ledger exports as CSV whenever you like, every row, with the reasoning and outcomes. It's your record of your company's decisions, not ours.

The Ledger in the docs has every column. Decide is where the decisions come from.
